- Electric ferry between Sweden and Denmark will make nearly 20,000 crossings a year: Ferry boats run every day many times a day carrying passengers, and their cars and trucks, and by switching to electric ferry systems can prevent a tremendous amount of diesel fuel from being burned. Such ships typically burn low grade "bunker fuel" but an electric ferry of course burns nothing. These ships are also so massive to make it seem an impossibility, but here is what is called an "existence proof".
- Electrify America and Stable announce collaboration to deploy robotic fast-charging facility for self-driving EV fleets: The coming wave of robocars requires robotic charging systems it seems. All the automakers are planning autonomously driven cars, that require no human driver, to provide automated taxi services - kind of like Uber or Yellow Cab but without the driver. Such robotaxi's will need charging stations, and Stable looks to provide fast charging services for these robotaxi's. The first step is a pilot project in San Francisco.
- For EV Battery Recycling, Volkswagen thinks ahead to the end of the road
- Ford - Volkswagen expand global collaboration to advance autonomous driving, electrification and better serve customers: As Volkswagen says all these heart-warming things, that we must stop avoiding the question of climate change and move on to action, we have to remember the recent history of the Volkswagen Group. What VW says in this press release is very nice, to be sure. A few years ago VW was caught red handed cheating on emissions testing. They had rigged the Volkswagen TDI drive train to operate in a super-clean mode while under emissions testing, and to operate in a "normal" (hence polluting) mode in normal operation. VW had to deliver on the Fahrvergnügen promise (German for driving enjoyment). As a result VW has had to pay steep fines, several executives have gone to jail, and suddenly the VW Group is more interested in electric vehicles than before. If that's what it takes to make progress, so be it.

- GM to invest $300 million, add 400 jobs at Michigan plant for new Chevrolet electric vehicle
- General Motors and LG Chem team up to advance toward an all-electric future, add jobs in Ohio: General Motors and LG have worked on electric vehicle technology such as most of the innards of the Chevy Bolt EV. This announcement is about what will be GM's Gigafactory - but of course they're not going to use that name. Meaning, GM and LG Chem (just like Tesla and Panasonic) will build a factory in which to manufacture a large quantity of battery packs. Having a large factory for this purpose will bring down battery costs. LG Chem had previously received US federal funding for a battery factory in the USA, to supply cells to GM for the Chevy Volt. The new factory will be in the Lordstown area, which has been a point of contention between GM and the Trump Administration. The factory will be new construction rather than reusing any existing facility GM has in that area. GM sold its earlier manufacturing complex to "Lordstown Motors" for the purpose of building battery-electric trucks.
- General Motors makes EV Charging On The Go easier than ever: GM has beefed up its smart phone app for electric vehicles to include a comprehensive charging station map and related features. It helps folks to find charging stations on the EVgo and ChargePoint networks, and to help start charging sessions.

- Hyundai Motor Group partners with Rimac to accelerate development of high-performance EV's
- Hyundai Motor Group, Canoo, to co-develop all-electric platform for future electric vehicles: Hyundai and Kia (Hyundai Motor Group) are looking to an outside partner, Canoo, to develop an electric vehicle platform for Purpose Built Vehicles. Canoo has developed a so-called skateboard vehicle that can be scaled in several directions, and can be paired with any cabin design. The skateboard presumably has the battery pack and drive train as a platform, and a vehicle manufacturer designs a passenger cabin to fit on the top.

Porsche is increasing its stake, saying that they like what Rimac is doing. Of course Porsche must be getting something out of the deal and is likely using drive train components sourced from Rimac.
- Reviving auto shop classes for the EV era, one old Volkswagen at a time: For a long time the only means to owning an electric vehicle was to build our own. That meant getting training, either by reading books on EV conversion, talking in online forums, or taking classes. In some cases high school shop classes taught electric vehicle conversion. But, as Volkswagen says, the new era of electric vehicles requires a new era of shop classes.
